Camper & Nicholsons Marinas is delighted to participate in this year’s Earth Day on the 22nd April 2021. The ethos of this day is a global effort to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
Over the next few days, Camper & Nicholsons Marinas will be promoting and supporting Earth Day by offering information and insight into the environmental efforts of the Camper & Nicholsons three owned and managed marinas in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. This year’s Earth Day theme is ‘Restore the Earth.’
Laura Harrison, Marketing Manager at Camper & Nicholsons Marinas comments,
“Our outstanding yacht and superyacht marinas are located in some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. We know that our loyal customers and staff members are inspired by the ocean, so we hope creating projects within our marinas based around the support of the natural environment will help marine conservation.”
Day 1 - What do we do to help the environment in each marina?
From electric car charging points to the planting of coral and mussels, each marina within the Camper & Nicholsons network is responsible and encouraged to offer eco-friendly projects or initiatives at their marina.
Cesme Marina in Turkey drew international acclaim in 2018 by planting a number of mussels in their marina. The mussels are known to naturally cleanse the water around them, offering a holistic approach to water cleanliness and aquatic pollution. This project has since evolved, and the marina has encouraged further life into the marina with releasing trepangs (2020), planting of coral (2019) and squid (2018). Most recently, Cesme Marina is a part of the Zero Waste initiative (2021), where local businesses commit to prioritising the environment with specific projects focused on creating a more sustainable environment for everyone to enjoy.
Grand Harbour Marina was one of the first marinas on the island of Malta to install electric car charging points, assisting berth holders with a specific parking area to charge electric cars, contributing towards helping improve air quality, and reducing emissions. Grand Harbour Marina introduced the super successful ‘Sea Bin’ to the marina with the help of local partners on the island. Active in the Crew and Captain community, Grand Harbour Marina created a number of fun Marina Clean Ups, collecting items from the marina basin and recycling.
Port Louis Marina is located within a Caribbean blue lagoon and encourages water cleanliness at the marina by offering a free of charge pump out service for yachts berthed in the marina. There is also a designated recycling area on the landside to ensure best practise when recycling waste material.
